CDS-2P
Automated Vacuum Degassing Station
CDS-2P Vacuum Degassing Applications
CDS-2P is an automated vacuum degassing station that removes the air trapped in epoxy before it cures. It was developed for assemblies with gaps of around 0.2 mm, which the epoxy fills by gravity and surface tension once plasma treatment has made the surfaces wettable. Any bubble trapped on the way would cure into a void.
The system features two independent vacuum chambers, each with a dedicated 250 L/min dry vacuum pump and nitrogen line. Every cycle follows a programmed pressure profile: a controlled descent lets the bubbles expand and escape without pushing the epoxy out of the gap, a dwell holds the target pressure, and a controlled nitrogen raise brings the parts back to atmosphere. The vacuum valve regulates each descent and the nitrogen valve each raise, and a recipe can chain any number of descent, dwell and raise steps.
CDS-2P works with carriers and magazines. Carriers arrive on a conveyor and are loaded into magazines, horizontally or flipped 90° for vertical insertion. Each full magazine goes to the first free chamber and, once degassed, on to the next process, so operators never handle parts with uncured epoxy.
It complements our plasma systems on the same line: plasma treatment makes the surfaces wettable so the epoxy flows into the gap, and CDS-2P removes the air the epoxy carries in with it.
The main applications of CDS-2P are:
- Degassing of epoxy filled into narrow gaps
- Void reduction in adhesive bond lines
- Degassing of underfill and potting compounds
- Automatic vacuum processes with programmable pressure profiles
Like all SCI production systems, CDS-2P runs the SCI software on an industrial Windows PC with a 21.5" touch screen: full manual and automatic operation, independent cycle control and real-time pressure display for each chamber, user access levels, programs defining the whole pressure profile, and automatic advanced logging.
